That iconic image on a miniature tin from Britain - Nipper listening to his master's voice via a gramophone - the vintage precursor to ipods and and all other personal communication devices of wonderment.
Printed on the back is.... "approximately 200 English gramophone needles- the Gramophone Company Limited".
Apparently 78 rpm records wore out gramophone needles which needed to be replaced after only one or two plays - so a good supply on hand was advantageous. The reference to "half tone" on the lid indicated the size of the needle which determined the volume and tone of the sound - alas, this was the technological reality of the day.
