This substantial, highly collectible commemorative medal originates from the Soviet occupation period of Latvia (Latvian SSR). Struck from a heavy bronze-colored copper alloy, it serves as an authentic historical document and a beautiful piece of mid-to-late 20th-century numismatic art.
Obverse (Front): As shown in IMGP2791.jpg, the front face features a raised geographic outline map of Latvia, with a raised star marking the capital city of Riga. The map is surrounded by the embossed uppercase Latvian text: "LATVIJAS REPUBLIKĀNISKĀ ARODBIEDRĪBU PADOME" (Latvian Republican Council of Trade Unions). The background exhibits a fine, stippled grain texture.
Reverse (Back): Photographed in detail in IMGP2792.jpg, the reverse displays an intricate, multi-layered panoramic relief of the Riga city skyline. The silhouette sharply captures historic medieval church spires (including St. Peter's and the Riga Cathedral) standing alongside prominent Soviet-era architectural landmarks.

The Latvian Republican Council of Trade Unions (LRAP) was the central administrative organ managing labor unions within the Latvian SSR. Medals of this scale were not produced for commercial public sale; instead, they were struck in limited quantities to be distributed as high-level institutional awards, tokens for labor achievements, or commemorative gifts for delegates at trade union congresses.
